Hotel spa complex, Jürmala, Latvia
Visited 18.8.2011 by jonahi. This huge 11-storey hotel in the popular beach town called Jürmala was never finished and brought into use, as many buildings in the former Soviet Union. Someone has later tried to renovate it, but maybe they ran out of money too, because the renovating is also left unfinished. Some of the windows and radiators were quite new, maybe from the early 90's, and even the electricity wires were installed. I was pleased that the elevators didn't work though. That one big space looks like swimming pools were originally meant to be there. As also the billiard saloon, fountains in the entrance hall, nice wall papers in the hotel rooms... And look at those bathrooms! We found this place by an accident, because on the hotels yard there was a camping site where we happened to put our tent. What a coincidence!
Edit: "According to some delfi.lv articles, this building was finished in 1971. In 1992 it was sold to some companies and it was still opened until 2002. Closed in 2002 , reconstruction works started in 2004." - Reader's comment. (Thank you!)

Wow, it definitely doesn't look like it! But thanks for the information! I couldn't find any articles in English, and I don't understand Latvian.. :) Quite a long reconstruction process, if it was still not finished in 2011!
