Old wellness salon spa, Baldone, Latvia

Visited 17.8.2011 by jonahi. Such a beautiful but quickly ramshackled building. Somebody had even stolen the handrails. It has once been some kind of a spa or a wellness salon. My exploration company was too coward, and I didn't have the courage to go alone into the first floors dark corridors. (Skkye, my fearless exploration partner, when are we going to do urbex together?!) But I know now there would have been a swimming pool. Those old small bath tubs were also nice.

Block of flats and the summerhouse, Baldone, Latvia

Visited 17.8.2011 by jonahi. What an impressive and enormous place. Somebody was making banging noise on the upper floors when we went in, so we quickly run out from there. The surrounding forest where the summerhouse lied was also lovely.

Canteen or restaurant, Baldone, Latvia

Visited 17.8.2011 by jonahi. Weird place, especially architecturally. Glass tiles, a window-wall, and then small, almost ordinary rooms downstairs? The cloakroom, the huge dining room, and the ones with blue-tiled walls that look like there has been a kitchen, somehow tell me about an old restaurant or a canteen. What do you think?

The apartment blocks of Sirgala, Estonia

Visited 16.8.2011 by jonahi. Sirgala is a small, poor village next to Viivikonna (previous post). Oil shale was mined here also, until it dried up. There were abandoned flats in almost every Sirgala's apartment block house, and a few completely empty buildings, too. People were just living in their shabby homes right next to the flats with broken windows, total mess and stolen radiators. I think this particular house has first been just apartments, then some kind of election place, or it has something to do with the local military training grounds that we missed, again because of the arriving darkness. But why all the books, magazines and other paper stuff in there?
